Carli Weiler, Founder / Recruiting Director & Private Lesson Director
Carli competed in the Big Ten Conference (B1G) as well as with the Collegiate National Team. As a high school volleyball player, she was ranked one of the top five defensive players in the country as well as a First Team All-American. Carli continued her volleyball career at Michigan State University, where she played for four years and served as captain. Following her playing career, Carli continued with the Spartans as a student assistant coach. Throughout that time, she was a recipient of the AVCA Coaches-4-Coaches Scholarship. She then pursued a masters degree in speech-language pathology and worked for four years as a speech therapist / lead teacher at CST Academy before dedicating her full attention to Volley Chicago. Carli also served as the head varsity coach for the Latin School of Chicago girls varsity volleyball team, leading the program to its first state final four in her first season as head coach. Her passion for developing players and assisting them in reaching their full potential stems from her own experiences as a young athlete.
Jill Paluch, Assistant Recruiting Director
Jill attended Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park where she was a four year varsity starter playing as both a setter and libero. There, she helped lead the team to their first ever regional and sectional championships as well as an Elite 8 finish in the state championship run. Jill also played club volleyball competitively and placed second in the nation in the 2009 JVDA National Championship, and was named an AAU All-American and All-tournament team selection. Jill earned a scholarship to continue her career at the University of Akron where she again played as a setter and libero. She was a four-year starter and senior team captain and finished eighth in all time program history for number of digs in a single season. She also earned the opportunity in 2013 to represent her school at the U.S. Women’s National Team tryout in Colorado Springs. Once her volleyball career ended, Jill became passionate about helping young athletes develop their skills and love for the game, providing lessons regularly and spent four years coaching at the club level. Jill went on to study nursing and is currently working part time as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Mitch Weiler, Assistant Recruiting Director & Private Lesson Instructor - Oak Lawn
Mitch attended Brother Rice High School and was named to the 2014 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list. During his senior year, he earned Second Team AVCA High School All-American honors. In that same year, Mitch was named Chicago Catholic League (CCL) Player of the Year. Mitch was also a three-time club All-American and national champion runner-up at the 2014 USAV Junior National Championships. He continued his playing career at Ball State University, where he played for four years and served as captain. At Ball State, Mitch was named Second Team All-MIVA and Molten National Outside Attacker of the Week. Mitch is currently pursuing a career as an occupational therapist.
Mary Kate Styler, Private Lesson Instructor / Beach Instructor - Lincoln Park
Mary Kate attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School and was named one of the top 20 players to watch in the Chicagoland area by the Chicago Tribune. She was named Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) Player of the Year her senior year of high school and earned a scholarship to continue her volleyball career at Loyola University Chicago, where she played for four years. Following graduation, Mary Kate discovered her passion for beach volleyball and trained in the city of Chicago while working in sales/client services. She then moved to Galway, Ireland to pursue a masters degree in Information Systems Management at NUI Galway. Now back in the Windy City, she works in Operations at Chicago Speech Therapy. Mary Kate holds a strong passion for player development and personal growth in the game of volleyball.
Mary Kate began playing beach volleyball in the summer of 2012, shortly after her indoor collegiate career began at Loyola University Chicago. Her summers then on were spent on the Chicago and the surrounding suburb beaches/indoor facilities to give her the competitive edge, strength and mindset for the indoor game. She immediately fell in love with it and met people along the way by showing up to the beach, introducing herself and jumping in on pick-up games. She's participated in several competitive beach tournaments and played with and against some of the top volleyball players in the country. You can find her applying a lot of SPF and playing at Foster, Montrose, North Avenue and Oak Street beach.
Katie Higgins, Private Lesson Instructor - Lincoln Park
Katie is a native of Kearney, Nebraska. She was a three-time All-State and All-Conference selection at Kearney High where she won the Wendy's Heisman Award and was named the region's Player of the Year. In conjunction with her high school career, Katie was a member of Nebraska Juniors Volleyball Club and earned a scholarship to continue her volleyball career at the University of Notre Dame. Katie was a four-year monogram winner and team captain of the Irish. She was also named Most Valuable Player during her senior year. Katie received her degree from The Mendoza College of Business and now works in sports marketing. Katie is looking forward to helping young players develop their skills and achieve their goals!
Michael Sopocy, Private Lesson Instructor - Irving Park & Niles
Michael Sopocy brings a plethora of experience and variety to Volley Chicago. At the collegiate level, he assisted with Bowling Green State's women's volleyball program from 2003 to 2004. Continuing his coaching within Division 1 athletics, Sopocy was an Assistant Coach at Cleveland State University in 2006. Sopocy also has an established base at the high school level. In his first season as Head Volleyball Coach for Resurrection Prep, Sopocy led the girls varsity team to a state championship match. He now serves as the head coach for North Park University women’s and men’s volleyball teams.
Kelly Magliano, Private Lesson Instructor - Oak Lawn
Kelly attended Mount Assisi Academy and was a three year varsity letter winner. She was named to the All Girls Catholic Athletic Conference team as junior and senior. Kelly was also a Joliet Herald All Region selection in 2013. She continued her collegiate playing career at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, where she majored in Psychology Human Services and received a minor in Coaching. Kelly served as her team’s captain in 2017. As a senior, she received Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week and first team All WIAC accolades. Kelly now serves as the Graduate Assistant to the Robert Morris University Women’s Volleyball Team.
Kennedy Arundel, Private Lesson Instructor - Oak Lawn
Kennedy attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School and was a three year varsity letter winner. Throughout her club volleyball career she was awarded MVP of the 15’s Junior National Championship Open Division, MVP of the 15’s Open National Junior Classic, and MVP of the 16’s Open President’s Day Challenge. Kennedy earned a scholarship to continue her career at the University of Connecticut. At UConn she received the American Defensive Player of the Week Award and was named an NSCA All-American for strength and conditioning. Kennedy played libero, rightside attacker, and outside attacker during her collegiate career. She currently works as an inside sales representative for a biotechnology company.
